At the age of 10 Lyrical~Toye was introduced to poetry during Black History Month, her teacher read Paul Laurence Dunbar's Little Brown Baby. While hearing Dunbar's poem was a defining moment in her life it was the Harlem Renaissance Writers that helped her find her love for the art. Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Countee Cullen, Jean Toomer & Claude McKay became early inspirations to her. An avid reader since she could read she fell in love with Lorraine Hansberry.

In January 2010 Lyrical Toye started an online radio show called One Mic:Poetry & Hip Hop fusing her two loves; Poetry & Hip Hop. The show had a successful run on blog talk radio featuring some of the talent that had appeared on Def Jam Poetry like J. Ivy and Derrick Abyss Graham and some upcoming talent like Malcolm Whatsoeva Maye, Epiphany Castro and Champ ThePoet. During the berth of one mic she also had Amde Hamilton of the Watts Prophets and Chenyelu Bomani, who are pioneers of the poetry & spoken word movement as guest. 

In May 2011 she released her first CD entitled GROWTH. The CD featured the awesomely talented Champ ThePoet, Nxt Level, 1Love & Joe Nice. Produced & Mastered by Nxt Level Studios featuring the controversial Field Nigga (produced by LLP Productions). Her second project called I Am: Spoken Word released August 30 2014 marked a change in her poetic voice. This free EP included music production by Locksmith, Big Swang, and tracks from myflashstore.net. It features the emotionally compelling Sometimes and he controversial Noose as well as Love Gasms to which she did all vocals. Mastered at Lyrical Vizhen Ink.

LT as she is affectionately called by those that know and love her found the love of her life thru poetry...HERSELF! After spending many years battling low self esteem and insecurity it was thru poetry that she not only found her voice but the spiritual strength to truly see herself. It is in this knowlege that she conquered her biggest demons.

A deeply spiritual person LT expresses the intricate balance between spirit and self when she talks about her journey to self. Her personal mantra is LOVE YOURSELF MORE THAN YOU LOVE ANYONE ELSE! She believes there are 3 universal truths that will bring inner peace and peace of mind to all people Love Thyself, Know Thyself & Be True to Thyself. 

Through many struggles, heartaches, pain, love, joy, tears, disappointments and accomplishments Lyrical~Toye embraces life with a sense of value and respect. She overstands that somethings are beyond her understanding she believes in the Universal balance of life and walks in her own self defined spirituality (not organized religion but overstanding spiritual things). She is truly a woman of exceptional strength.
